Created directly from life in a single forty-minute session, The Memory of Flesh explores the body as a repository of lived experience. 

Viewed from behind, the figure offers neither expression nor narrative. The face turns away from the viewer, redirecting attention toward the architecture of the body itself. Shoulders, spine, hips and hands become the true subjects of the work, carrying traces of age, endurance, vulnerability and resilience. 

Painted through rapid, instinctive gestures, the image emerges less as a description of anatomy than as an accumulation of remembered sensations. Layers of colour move across the surface like currents of energy, revealing a body shaped not only by time but by life itself. 

For Fangyou Belleli, the human figure is never static. It carries histories invisible to the eye. The painting becomes a site where those histories briefly surface, transforming flesh into memory and presence into form. 

Neither portrait nor representation, After the Crossing invites the viewer to encounter the body as a living archive—one marked by experience, altered by time, and sustained by an enduring human spirit.
