Mathilde — The Weight of Surrender

Created directly from life in a single twenty-minute session, The Weight of Surrender explores the body not as an object of observation but as a vessel of presence. 

Curled inward and resting close to the ground, the figure abandons performance and self-consciousness, yielding fully to gravity, breath and stillness. The charcoal moves between precision and dissolution, allowing the body to emerge and disappear simultaneously within the surface of the paper. 

Rather than describing anatomy, the drawing records a fleeting state of being — a moment when movement has ceased and only presence remains. 

As in much of Fangyou Belleli’s work, the image is not a representation of a person, but the trace of an encounter shared between model, artist and time itself.
